WHY SHOULD I GIVE TO BRENTWOOD?

While tuition fees cover the School’s operating costs, donations are a vital source of financial aid for students in need, as well as enhancements to our tripartite programming, additions and repairs to our student-centred facilities, professional development for staff, and much more.

The Student Impact Fund (formerly known as the Annual Fund) has been running for 15 years. Since then, we have raised over 7 million dollars and supported over 1500 students with financial aid. Without the support of our family of donors, Brentwood would not be the home away from home that it is for so many.

WHY DOES MY PARTICIPATION MATTER?

We truly believe that it is not the size of your gift that’s important. It is your participation in giving that matters most which is why everyone receives one point towards the House Challenge, regardless of the size of the gift they contribute. No amount is too small to make a difference.

HOW MANY BRENTWOOD STUDENTS ARE ON A BURSARY?

Typically 1 in 4 students receive some level of bursary support to attend Brentwood. 27% of our student population received financial aid last year (2020-21).

IS THERE A MINIMUM GIFT AMOUNT?

The minimum donation required to score house point is $10.00. In order to receive a charitable tax receipt, the minimum donation is $20.00.

WILL I RECEIVE A CHARITABLE TAX RECEIPT AND HOW WILL I RECEIVE IT?

Brentwood is a registered charitable organization. Eligible donors who make a gift of $20 or more will receive a receipt in the mail typically within 1-2 weeks (depending on where you live in the world).

Eligible donations received before 11:59 PM on December 31st will receive a 2021 charitable tax receipt. Donations received after this date will receive a 2022 tax receipt.

IF I’M A US DONOR CAN I RECEIVE A TAX RECEIPT?

Yes, but you will need to make your online donation via FRISBE (Friends of Independent Schools & Better Education). Click here to learn more about FRISBE.

CAN I MAKE A GIFT OF STOCK?

Yes. There is no capital gains tax on publicly-listed securities that are donated to registered Canadian charities such as Brentwood and you will receive an official receipt for income tax purposes for the value of the stocks. There are particular advantages to donating flow-through shares.

WHAT DOES MY GIFT SUPPORT?

Anything you want it to! You can direct your gift to support any of our Brentwood Association funds (for today’s needs) or our Brentwood Foundation funds (endowed funds that generate interest for the long term). You choose an initiative that means the most to you, or you can ask the school to direct your gift to the area of greatest need.

Yes. You choose where to direct your donation and that is what it will support.

ONCE I MAKE MY GIFT, HOW CAN I STAY UPDATED AND HELP THE CAUSE?

ARE THERE OTHER WAYS I CAN HELP BRENTWOOD WITH FUNDRAISING and the Annual House Challenge?

Get others in your family, friend, and work circles involved! Their individual donations will help you score more points for your house.

WHAT DONATIONS COUNT TOWARD Brentwood's Annual fundraising GOAL?

All gifts to Brentwood from Old Brentonians, current and former parents, faculty, staff, friends and extended family members made from July 1st 2021 to June 30th 2022 (our school's fiscal year) count towards our annual Student Impact Fund initiative, but only donations received by midnight (PST) on June 1st 2022 are eligible for House Challenge points.

IF I HAVE MADE A DONATION SINCE JULY 1, 2021 - DO I RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL HOUSE POINT IF I MAKE ANOTHER DONATION DURING THE GIVING TUESDAY CAMPAIGN?

Yes! We are making an exception to our regular House Challenge rules for our Giving Tuesday campaign - any donations made between November 20, 2021 and midnight on December 1st will receive one (more) house point.
